The FatCat Series Enlarges with Three More Children’s Books

on September 14, 2022

Bellingham, WA — FatCat, the friendly feline first won over our hearts in February with the release of The Apostles’ Creed: For All God’s Children. In October, two more FatCat books will pounce onto the scene, with at least one more joining them in 2023:

The Lord’s Prayer: For All God’s Children, art by Natasha Kennedy and text by Harold L. Senkbeil (October 2022). The Lord’s Prayer walks through the prayer that teaches God’s children how to pray. Harold L. Senkbeil, author of multi-award-winning The Care of Souls, accompanies each line of the prayer with words that guide readers to make the prayer their own.

The King of Christmas: All God’s Children Search for Jesus, art by Natasha Kennedy and text by Todd R. Hains (October 2022). Inspired by the story of the magi and Mary’s Magnificat, The King of Christmas follows the Magi as they look for the king. At each stop along the way, new friends join the search. The King of Christmas invites children and families to consider where Jesus may be found today.

The FatCat series emphasizes the church’s catechism—the Apostles’ Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Ten Commandments. These teach and unite Christians across traditions and generations. To keep the catechism approachable and fun, the series features a character named FatCat (“cat” being short for “catechism”). FatCat, a striped gray feline, can be found throughout the book’s pages, learning along with the readers. Each book includes a family devotional and suggested scriptures for further reading.

Jesse Myers, Lexham Press’ publisher, said, “It’s our hope that the FatCat books will be a joyful and fun way for parents to introduce children to the basics of Christian belief. The books will mirror exactly what we hope to do in all Lexham books: point people helpfully and hopefully to God’s Word.”

Future FatCat books are planned, beginning with The King of Easter: Jesus Searches for All God’s Children (January 2023), which reminds us of Jesus’s power to save. The Ten Commandments: For All God’s Children is in production.
